My Hobby/Business

If you are well read on my blog, you may remember a post I did a while back about a carpet cleaner that I got at a yardsale and sold on Craigslist for a very nice return. I bought it for $2.50 and someone bought it from me for $55. Well, since then I have flipped many items. I go yardsaling almost every weekend. I shop for myself, but I always keep my eye out for those items that I can get cheap and can then re-sell for a profit. Since my first sell on Craigslist, I have sold about 4 TVs, 4 carpet cleaners, an edger, a train table, a glider rocking chair, 2 toy work benches, a DVD player, 2 strollers and probably more that I just can't remember right now.

Today, I was pleased with my latest sell. I bought this carpet cleaner, and I paid $20 for it. It had the origingal receipt saying that it was originally more than $250. I listed it for $85. I always figure that people will try to talk me down. I want to be able to negotiate and still make a decent profit. Well, I got a call today and a guy came and got it and paid full price. So, I made a nice little profit of $65. I am not exactly sure how much I have made over the course of flipping items, but it is a decent little amount. I have so much fun with it. Stan is always great to watch the kids on Saturday morning while I go out and hunt for deals. He gets a kick out of me buying and selling. I am always amazed that people will drive an hour or so to pick up an item. Also, thanks to Craigslist, I bought a sectional sofa for a great deal that fits perfectly in my TV room. Craigslist is seriously the best!

I told Elizabeth yesterday she better get busy! This sounds like a perfect way to round up money for our cruise!

I think that what you're doing is very cool. I'm needing money for a dining room set, and I think this may be the way to go about it. Thanks again for this reminder of such a great idea!
