The world's forces have combined against me for Stan's good. I am coming to the realization that I am a college football fan. Not just a BYU or GA football fan...a college football fan. I found myself asking Stan tonight if there was a game on. He informed me that Oregon State is playing Utah, but that the game does not start until 9:00. I told him that I wanted to watch it..and then it hit me. How did it come to this? Why do I care the Oregon State (who beat #1 ranked USC last week) is playing Utah, BYU's arch nemesis? Well, it is the cunning plan of my husband to slowly lure me into his trap. The guys in his office have a weekly pick 'ems list, where they choose 10 games and you have to select who will win, and then you get points that accumulate over the course of the football season. I am not even included this group, but I choose games every week nonetheless. (Sidenote: I am not allowed in the group b/c Trent Wardwell is scared of me and is too proud to lose to a girl. He can't deny it.) So, this is one reason why I have been drawn into this sport. Another part of the equation would be my brother's decision to cheer for BYU. Now, I always try to see if I can see him on TV, when BYU plays at home. Actually, I am hooked enough at this point, that I would probably watch it anyhow. I have always enjoyed sports, more than most girls that I know, but it is getting worse. Now I care about games like Oregon State and Utah. I have a love for March Madness, I can name the teams and mascots in all the SEC, I know which baseball teams are in the National and American leagues, I know the names announcers and ESPN anchors...I know more than I ever wanted to. Stan quizzes me and then occasionally shows other people what I have memorized, as if he has taught his puppy how to do a cool trick. Well, now I am hooked. I have an appreciation for college football that I never thought possible. Thank you Stan. (Addition to earlier sidenote: I just asked Stan if I was beating Trent in the pick'ems, and he said that I am. However, I am 1 point behind Stan.)

yes! Welcome to my world - I love it too. I got in the habit of watching college football games on Saturdays during college while studying. I always watched Texas football because my brother went there and then I followed him there and loved Texas football too but it became I just was so interested in every game I could see because they usually affected Texas or the BCS in some way. So, I totally understand!!! Now, if David could get me as interested in BYU football - I guess he needs direction from Stan on that one! :)
Umm, I still haven't figured out how Flag Football works when I watch my girls cheer. Maybe someday I'll be there with you, La La.
Girl, I am with you, I love watching football too! I was even trying to find out a way to go to a BYU football game even though it would cost so much money to fly to Utah (i couldn't convince Jordan that we could part with that money, so we aren't going.) Anyway, I am glad that you are fan too.
I got bored and stop reading after the word "football." Was there anything else I should have gotten out of this post? Maybe you can add a "bottom line" segment to any future entries re: football so I can skip to the end.
