Our Trip Out West

We just got back last night from our trip. Here are a few of the highlights from our trip to Vegas and St. George.
When we got into Vegas, we had a couple hours to burn before we checked into our hotel. Being the huge fan of Bobby Flay that I am, I had to eat at the Mesa Grill while in Vegas. It ended up being about $100 for lunch for the 3 of us! Here is Jake enjoying his $17 kid's meal. ($12 for a quesadilla and $5 for the side of fries! We did not have a kids' menu to look at before ordering.) He barely ate any of it. It was really good food, but probably not worth it, esp. when the Paris is right across the street and has a creperie. Yum!

We checked out Nielsen's Frozen Custard that night. So good. As you might see, this trip was partially about the food. I had to check out all the spots that we don't have here in the South.

Since our hotel room had an extra bedroom and bath, we invited Matt and Julie and their kids to hang out with us in Vegas. Matt was not able to come because of work, but the kids were on spring break and were bored so Julie packed them up and met us in Vegas. We had 2 days of fun. This is us at Circus Circus. Jake rode a bunch of rides and ended up being scared of most of them. He loved the planes, the balloon ride, and of course the carousel.
I wanted to do a gondola ride at the Venetian. It was lots of fun. Too bad I couldn't sit by my hubby on our romantic boat ride. Mental note, next vacation will be without kids. This is us at Zion's National Park. It was so beautiful, and a little colder than we had anticipated. We did a couple of hikes: a small one called "weeping rock" (pictured) and the "river walk" which was a little longer. Afterwards, we had the worst service imaginable at the Bumbleberry Inn restaurant, where Stan spent a summer working back in his teenage years. He did meet his cousin's daughter's husband. Nice guy.

One evening we were going to go to Cafe Rio for dinner, but it was crazy busy, so we went to the Village Inn. Jake found a way to entertain himself while we waited for our food. He decided to make art on his napkin with his chocolate milk. He is quite the artist.

We finally made it to Cafe Rio. It was still really crazy, but well worth it. I am only showing this to contrast it with our meal at the Mesa Grill. Jake barely ate any of his $12 quesdilla and ate more of his $.99 quesadilla from Cafe Rio. Lesson learned. I recommend the pork burrito, enchilada style. Two thumbs up.

Here are the Bellagaio fountains. Very pretty, esp. at night.

So, we had a very fun trip, and the kids did pretty well. We had a lot of fun playing games with Matt and Julie and their friends. Our vacation did end on a little of a bad note when we could not find one piece of our luggage at baggage claim. Airtran lost one of our large suitcases containing all of my children's clothes for our trip. I am still waiting to hear from them. Grrrrrr. It is good to be home. I need the humidity.

Fun! I could really go for some good food. Maybe just not the prices. Yikes, Bobby Flay's restaurant is expensive. I still think I would want to go at least once for the experience. Minus the kids. I really don't think I would pay 20 bucks for a kids meal.
Fun pictures!

Did you tell your waiter how you're in love with Bobby Flay? Maybe they would have thrown in the fries for free.

Fun trip! Yeah, I'm all about getting the novelty food when I travel too. I jealous of the custard especially. And Cafe Rio.

Glad you're back.

It looks like you guys had a great time. I hope they find your luggage soon. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to you on Sunday. Good luck on your 1/2 marathon next month! Let me know how you do.

I am so disappointed that you picked Bobbie Fleigh over crepes.

Oh no, we went to the Paris for Crepes the next day. We almost went there twice actually. That was also on my "must do" list. That place is so dang good. I had a ham and cheese crepe and Stan had a seafood crepe.

Ok, I've calmed down now.

Zion is a cool place. Hope you got lots of photos.

Here's mine from a hike long ago.
