Andy's Trout Farm
This weekend we went to a place called "Andy's Trout Farm." We found this little gem of a place by looking at the Rabun County website and it was listed under "major attractions". It boasted that it had trout fishing, gem mining, pedal boats, and a kiddie train. Well, I just had to laugh when we found this place. There was an old shack (that I am sure would not pass any building inspection) where they hooked you up with fishing gear. Their "kiddie train" was a golf cart that pulled some barrels that were mounted on wheels. Unfortunately, this fancy train was out of order, but we were invited to let our kids play on the golf cart and act like they were driving it. (Score! We never get to play on golf carts.) They had one pedal boat, but we did not inquire about it. Also the gem mining area also left a little to be desired, so we passed on it and did another one later. The upside though, is that this place was very nicely situated in the mountains. There were a couple of ponds, a running stream, and a bigger lake that were all surrounded by very nice grassy areas. Plus, the fish were jumping all over the place and were very hungry. The Kartchner kids caught one fish each and then we let Jake try. I think his idea of fishing is to see how much you can move the pole around. After 2 strikes on the same worm we barely had any bait on our hook left, but I figured we would leave it there and see if we could still catch a fish with almost nothing more than a hook. Well, 2 seconds later we got another strike and we caught the fish. We grilled all the fish up the next day and had some tasty trout. Stan and Kelly were the only ones who really had appetites for it.

Jaimee put the kids in the train anyhow.

The fish kept jumping. It was hard to get a picture of them in mid-air. This is the best I got.
