So here is an update for any who want to know about how our life in the Spanish branch is going. I have now been to 2 whole weeks of Sunday meetings. Today I was called to be the 2nd counselor in the primary presidency, which was my exact calling in the PTC ward. My first week there was a bit crazy. I was out in the foyer with all three kids by the end of sacrament meeting. Today we lasted through all of sacrament without leaving once. It would have been well justified many times throughout the meeting, but I made everyone tolerate a little noise from us. I don't think they were too bad though. It is rough with all three by myself. And it is hard to not follow anything being said. For instance today in sacrament meeting they announced a priesthood meeting this evening at the stake center. However, I did not know about it until after church when Stan told me. I thought maybe they were talking about a youth fireside. Anyhow, so things are harder but good. Sunday mornings are much more relaxing, but I feel that I am waiting to be able to get ready. I am sure that I will soon find a way to use this time, as I will be doing much in primary. Last week I went to gospel doctrine which I understood none of, but loved feeling the sweet spirit the other members. (I spent the last hour in the nursery with Brooke (not 18 mos til dec) b/c she was going crazy). -
Today I went to primary. Now before today, I had on good authority from at least 3 different sources that the primary was out of control. I was made to believe that it was a mad-house. Well, I was so surprised. The primary is easily half the size of PTC's with about 25 kids total, but boy do they sing. They are probably twice as loud and sound so good. The primary is done all in English except for the songs. I am very familiar with the songs they are singing this year and it touched me to hear them sing these songs in Spanish and sing them so well. I welled up in tears from these sweet kids. They are all so cute. I will teaching a class of about 10 kids. I am not sure of all their ages but I am guessing that they are about 4-7 or so. I sat in there today and absolutely loved it! I think primary will be a good calling to help me transition into this ward. Jake was given a part for the primary program (which is done in Spanish), so I have to work with him on memorizing that. I was very impressed by how on the ball the primary was. Its true that they aren't the most reverent, but I think I am going to fall in love with these kids. And the people there are all so sweet and have done a great job of making us feel welcome... and some of them even speak English. - So, minus the insanity of sacrament meeting by myself, things are great. I really need to learn Spanish. I know that there is much to learn from this branch, and I truly want to understand and build friendships here.
